UNCONSCIOUSNESS


Introduction-

        When the body of a person is become motionless due to any accident means his breathing is going, but his eyes are closed and no any type of movement is found in his body, this condition is called unconsciousness. This type of condition may occur due to many reasons like- by getting hurt in head, suppressing on head, bursting of blood vessels in the brain, getting hurt on heart, etc. in many cases it has been also seen that the person is become unconscious due to fits’ attack, heart attack, hysteria, etc. unconsciousness may also occur due to taking over dose of intoxicating materials.

        The brain stops its functions in the condition of unconsciousness resulting the sufferer is lost his/her ability to hear, understand anything, move hands and legs, etc. his/her breathe become deep and slow as well as the heart beats and pulse rate also become too slow; his/her face turns into white, yellow or red as well as hands and legs are fallen too cold.   

Primary treatment (First aid)-if a person becomes unconscious, first all loose (untie) his/her all the clothes and then let him/her to lie down in comfortable stage on such a place where pure and fresh air is available. Do not allow crowd around the unconscious person as well as go on moving hand fan on him/her so that he/she has no any problem in breathing. After that, sprinkle water drops on his/her face and pour cold water on the head. It is also relievable for the sufferer to keep cold wetted towel on his/her head.

If the hands and legs of the sufferer are too cold, unfold blanket over his/her body as well as massage his/her soles with warm mustard oil. If he/she is feeling difficulty in breathing, ready (prepare yourself) to give artificial breath to him/her. The sufferer should not be allowed to move or turn.

         If he/she makes noise in breathing (inhaling and exhaling), let him/her to change his/her posture or turn the lying position 3-4 times and then give support to both the sides with the help pillows. Bending his/her knees is also relievable for the sufferer.

        But, if he/she does not make noise in breathing, let the sufferer lie down on his/her back as well as put a pillow under his/her head and shoulder. Move his/her head towards one side.

        Milk, tea or water should not be given to the sufferer during unconsciousness. When he/she starts becoming conscious, his/her lips can be wetted with water. After become conscious completely, giving milk, tea or coffee is beneficial for him/her. If he/she wants water, let him/her drink water as sips. If you have doubt about any hurt inside his/her stomach or any type of internal bleeding, do not give tea, water, etc.

Unconsciousness due to deficiency of blood- sometimes the body is suffered from blood deficiency due to over worry, fear, shock, hard work or getting hurt, etc. due to it, the person does not become unconscious, but his/her heartbeats become slow. He/she feels as if his/her heart has stopped functioning.

        Due to deficiency of blood, the sufferer’s face is fallen dusty, white or yellow; the lips are dried up; sticky sweat starts coming out from the body and body skin are fallen cold. The heartbeats and pulse rate of the patient go on becoming slow progressively. Body temperature also starts decreasing and he/she starts feeling additional thirst. In such condition, if the sufferer does not get treatment immediately, his/her heartbeats may also stop working, even he/she may die too. 

Primary treatment (first aid)- make the sufferer lie down in a comfortable position after loosing his/her clothes as well as cover his/her body with a blanket. Move hand fan on him/her if needed. Then, give warmth immediately through the bottles of hot water. If bleeding is taking place from any body part of the sufferer, try to stop this bleeding immediately.

        Keep the sufferer’s head little lower than his/her body so that the head could get sufficient amount of blood. If he/she feels difficulty in breathing or you find any sign of unconsciousness, give him/her artificial breathe immediately.

        If the sufferer is present out side, whatever piece of clothes you have should be used to give warmth to his/her body as well as you should also try to convince and give courage to him/her.

Unconsciousness due to over heat- unconsciousness is occurred also due to working hard or standing under sunlight and in hot climate. In this condition, the sufferer goes on become senseless progressively. The breath becomes slow, but easy; pulse rate is fallen slow; skin is become cold and the eyes are become heavy.

Primary treatment- if a person has become unconscious due to any reason, first of all you should need to make him/her lie down in comfortable position and then cover his/her body with blanket so that the body could remain warm. And after coming the sufferer again in his/her conscious stage, give hot milk or tea.  

Unconsciousness due to sun stroke- a person is suffered from sun stroke due to wandering in bright sun in summer season causes various symptoms like- severe fever, hot and dry skin, becoming the face and eyes red, contracting of eyes balls, fast pulse rate, nauseate, etc. the sufferer takes breath with speed and whirring sound also comes out from his/her mouth during breathing. His/her body starts trembling due to high body temperature (severe fever). If the sufferer does not get treatment on time, he/she is become unconscious and if the sufferer remains in this condition for long time, he/she may die too.  

Primary treatment- first of all a person attacked by sun stroke (hot wind) should be carried to any shaded place and then you should need to sprinkle drops of cold water on his/her face. If it is possible, you can add U.D-colon or vinegar in the water for making it too cold. In this condition, keeping ice bag on the head is also beneficial for the sufferer.

        The sufferer’s body should be covered with towel or bed sheet soaked in chilled (extra cold) water after squeezing it so that he/she could get coldness.

         Giving onion juice for drinking and rubbing it on the body is also job oriented.

        Make the sufferer sit in the tub of extra cold water up to 20 minutes and you should need to wash his/her body by cold water properly with rubbing.   

Unconsciousness due to other reasons- unconsciousness is occurred also due to physical weakness, heart disease, surrounded by groups of people, remaining hungry for long time or working hard, etc. in such condition, the sufferer’s face is turned into yellow and the lips are turned into white. His/her breathing and pulse rate are become fast; hands, legs and head are fallen cold due to profuse sweating; he/she is become senseless, but his/her feeling ability is alive. Even in unconscious position, he/she hears loud sound and feels needle pricking too.   

Primary treatment- if anyone is become unconscious due to reasons said above, first of all make the sufferer lie down in such a comfortable position that his/her head is remain little lower than the body. Giving vinegar after dissolving it in hot water or giving brandy in little volume or smelling ammonia, etc. are also beneficial for the sufferer. After coming again in conscious stage, you should give little hot milk to the sufferer for drinking. 

Unconsciousness due to getting jerk in the brain- unconsciousness is occurred also due to falling down directly on the head. In this case, the sufferer feels difficulty in breathing, pulse rate is become slow, and the body is become cold and senseless. This type of patient is surprised by loud sound even in the condition of unconsciousness. Even he/she feels light if focused on his/her eyes.

Primary treatment- first of all, make the sufferer of this type lie down in such a comfortable and straight position that his/her head remains little lower than the body and then cover his/her body with warm clothes as well as give warmth to the body with the bottles of hot water. Do not give any stimulating things like brandy to such patient. 

Unconsciousness due to getting hurt in the brain- the sense and feeling ability of the sufferer is lost due to getting hurt in the brain. Even there is no any affects noticed after focusing bright light on his/her eyes. His/her breathing and pulse rate are also become slow. Slow sound comes along with breathing. Difference is found in the shape of eyes balls. The body temperature is raised little. All the body parts are become inactive.

Primary treatment- in this case, cover the sufferer’s body with warm clothes after dressing his/her wounds as well as try to give warmth to his/her body through the bottles of hot water. Sprinkle the drops of cold water on his/her face. If he/she can able to drink anything, give little brandy or hot milk to him/her. If he/she is feeling difficulty in breathing, give artificial breathe immediately.

Unconsciousness due to brain hemorrhage- sometimes, the blood vessels in the brain are burst out due to heat or any other reasons resulting the sufferer is lost his/her sense and become unconscious. The breathe of such patient goes on in slow motions with sound; the body remains hot and there is no any affects is found after focusing light on his/her eyes.

Primary treatment- in this case, first of all make the patient as lie down in such a comfortable position that his/her head could remain little up than the body. After that, keep ice pieces on his/her head for making the head as cold. Keep the hands, legs and body warm with the help of blanket and the bottles of hot water. Do all the remaining treatments as done in normal unconsciousness. Do not give any intoxicants or stimulating materials to the sufferer. After that, call the doctor immediately, because this type of unconsciousness is very dangerous.    

Unconsciousness due to shock or fear- sometimes a person is become unconscious due to shock after hearing any bad news or looking any terrible scene.

        In this case, the patient’s face is turned into yellow; the eyes are shrunk inwards and eyeballs are become wider. The breathing and pulse rate of the patient are become slow and the skin is fallen cold due to sweating.

Primary treatment- in this condition, first of all make the patient lie down in comfortable position and try to keep his body warm by covering the body with warm clothes. Sprinkle the drops of cold water on his/her face and give hot milk or tea after coming again in conscious stage, but do not try to give brandy or any other stimulating material to him/her.

Unconsciousness due to fit attack- fit can attack to the patient at anywhere and any time even at the time (while) driving, as a result of it the patient may become unconscious after falling down and he/she may get hurts too.

        The jaws of the patient are locked in case of unconsciousness occurred due to fit. Sometimes, his/her tongue is also cut due to coming between teeth and bleeding starts. Froth comes out during unconsciousness, the body is twisted and the eyes are closed up.

Primary treatment-if possible, place any smooth and round piece of small wood, pencil wrapped in clothes or clothes, etc. between jaws to prevent cutting of tongue. Let the patient sleep as much as he/she wants. If you have to awake him/her soon, smell ammonia or lime water after mixing little vinegar in it, but any type of intoxicating material like brandy, etc. should not given to him/her.

Unconsciousness due to hysteria- This type of unconsciousness occurs mostly in fair sexes due to abnormal mental condition. In the attack of hysteria, unconsciousness increases progressively. The eyes of the patient are closed. The patient shows normal reaction by tickling or pinching. The breathing and pulse rate of the patient run with speed. She keeps her body twisted knowingly, but actually there is no any type of twisting is present. This disease has no certain symptoms. In this disease, sometimes the patient laughs, sometimes she cries loudly, sometimes she sings, sometimes quit. Like a normal unconsciousness, the patient does not loss her sense completely and the pulse rate is also remained normal. It is a type of false unconsciousness. In this case, the patient does not allow her body to get hurt at the time falling down.

Primary treatment- in this unconsciousness, first of all sprinkle the drops of cold water on the patient’s face and keep a piece of wet cloth on her head. When the patient creates much trouble for others, she can be controlled by scolding or a slap. This type of false unconscious is often ended soon by scolding or shouted. But, if you feel that the patient is unconscious completely, the patient should be carried to a doctor immediately. 

Infantile unconsciousness- the child is often become unconscious due to severe fever, intestinal disease or while teething, etc. in this condition, the legs of the child start trembling and twisting. Sometimes, the whole body also starts trembling; eyes are closed; profuse sweating starts from the body; breathing rate becomes fast and pulse rate becomes slow. Along with these symptoms, the child is become unconscious and lies down in the same condition for few minutes. This type of attack goes on coming at little intervals too.

Primary treatment- in this case, first of all keeps the body of the child as warm and the head as cold. Placing wet towel on the head and wrapping the body with blanket are the best. After that, you should need to carry the child to a doctor immediately.

Note- after giving primary treatment in all types of unconsciousness, the patient should be carried to a doctor immediately.
